Silence is Sh*t (沉默是屎)

Silence is Sht
Oil on Canvas. 36" x 36". March 2005.

This is the biggest piece I have painted yet. I realize that when I have too much detail of what I want to paint (down to the last detail) in my head, it turns out terrible. I doodled much with this painting. It took awhile before I got something that conveyed what I want to express.
This painting just evolved by itself.

I guess that I should not disclose what's hidden in this painting, and leave more room to other readers. As long as you know what I discover in the first minute already.

As you said, "shit" maybe really a topic that we keep distance to (definitely won't touch it in reality). Maybe your readers don't want to touch this too.

I think of Excreman's stories, and stories about the production.

I love observing the evolving stages of an idea, from an overused idiom "Silence is gold" to your view "Silence is shit"; from words to graphics, from shape to color. I have to admit this painting is really shocking when I first see it, after you mentioned to me the painting process for weeks. The "melting left behind" from those "people" is really disgusting. The painting brings me to that "shitty" environment successfully.

most really good paintings evolves on its own, having its own demands and directions!
